    Work deck progress

With some othr things that came up this week, it looks like the shop work deck is going to be all I get done on it this week. Working alone it is taking longer than I would have liked.

Phase one was to get the old plywood off and tear out the old joists. I got that done on Tuesday.

Yesterday I took the electric tiller in to bust up the dirt and remove the excess that had settled from rain runoff ovr the years. I removed about 10 wheelbarrow loads yesterday and got the ground fairly level.

Got a start on Phase 2 last night before I quit. I cut the new joists to length, selevcted the best of the old ones to reuse, and nailed the hangers on the ends.

Today I got the joist in the frame, leveled the frame work, and added the support posts. 4x4 posts @ 4' along the perimeter and 2 rows every other joist under the T&G joint for the decking. The header board was attached to the shop with lag screws and had pulled out over an inch on one end. I reattached it with 6 carraige bolts.

Phase 3 is tomorrow. Pick up the T&G sheets, cut the tongue off 2 of them, and paint the bottom side and edges. As soon as the last shet is painted I will start to flip them over and screw them down. I probably won't put the first coat on the top side until Sunday. Got a couple of other things I need to get done before heading back to work next week.

It also looks like I will be able to salvage at least 4 sheets of the old deck to use inside when time allows.

    Looking good.

Have you considered adding some joist blocking? It's probably not necessary with all your mid span supports, but it would help in stiffening everything up.

Want to take a road trip a bit North and come do my shed? I need a lot of excavation done and a cracked 3x10 concrete slab moved too. It might be easier just razing the bldg for me...

Nice work, Don. You'll be rollerskating on that deck before you know it.

Is that an electric tiller in picture one? Does it work well?

No blocking. just made sure the joists were all pulled straight as I screwed the plywood down.

Road trip? YOUR shed? Have fun!

Yes, Ryobi electric. Works ok for light work with the sand tank full, but I wouldn't want to till a large garden with it.

Got the plywood floor down today. A lot of time to paint the edges good and roll a seal coat on the bottom side.

Screws every 9" along the building and around the outside. A screw in each joist about 1" in from the edge of the ply and 2 across the ply. (40 screws per sheet.)

Obviously I got it dirty walking around while screwing the ply down. I will make a fast cleaning pass with 100 grit before putting down the first coat of floor paint.

not to be critical, but shouldn't those seams have been staggered?
there's a solution to every problem.......you just have to be willing to find it.

                  Chop, only 1 1/4 Acre.

toolguy, normally they would be but i wanted to be able to pull the section near the shop if needed. There is a full joist under both sides of the end joint.
