    new guy here

Hi All - first post here and I thought I would start off by showing my little shop - I just built it two years ago and only work in it during the winter. Too much to do outside during nice weather. Anyhow its a 24 x 24 building - the pictures will say the rest - nothing fancy - but what I wanted. Never worked with wood before - other than selling it for 20 years. Lumber yard manager. Then a police officer for 21 years - then retired - back to wood.
Hope the photos are not too big!

I added a couple of photo showing what almost happened to my shop this summer. We were very lucky.
My shop is just to the left of the telephone pole - (photo was taken 4 miles away - so the fire was pretty big ) -
we were lucky to have grass all around the house and shop - and lots of water. No damage - but a lot of folks lost their buildings and corrals. The reason I am taking a photo this far away - law enforcement would not let us into the area - until I ran into one of my fellow officers - he allowed me to get to my home - the smell of the smoke was really bad for days after - plus the ash storms from the wind. With the grace of GOD no lives or animals were lost - except for the critters living out in the sage brush area.

Nice shop! I wonder what it would look like if you took it seriously... And that cat carving is very lifelike...

      Welcome aboard!

That's not a nice thing to do - first post and make us all jealous !

Awesome shop! How long have you been working at it to get it to this shape? I am in awe of the quality of your shop-made stuff. And you seem to have gone the pine route just as Rod Kirby here goes MDF.

I see very neat ducting, but where/what is your dust collector?

And do tell - is that a large cat, or a small table ?

After seeing your shop, I hate you. But, welcome anyway!

I do have one question: What sort of clamps are you using to keep the cat locked in place like that? All I can figure is he must REALLY hate being brushed...

Hey - thanks all - first I am a clean freak - I think I have "cleanupallthetimeaftereverycutting" disorder. I am taking medication laced with sawdust to get over that. The cat is the shop foreman - held him in place with promises of more brushing of his fur, and if I were to use wood to copy him I guess it would have to be ***** willow or maybe dog wood. As you all can see I am not in favor of custom built cabinets in the shop - I did not want it to be an extension of my home - but just a shop - nothing is finished except to be painted with wood burning the lumber - if I make a mistake (woodworkers readjustment of lumber) and destroy some part of any of my benches - I can just replace it - that is kind of hard to do with finished cabinets - and besides - I would cry a lot if I did something to a finished cabinet. Oh yes - I am about 200 miles West of Idaho Falls. Idaho is great - but behind every one else by 10 years - not so bad in some cases - but next year we go from carrier pigeon to telegraph - I am really excited. I hope to learn from all you experts - so I know I will enjoy this site. Thanks again for the welcome!
