But, I think that reduces the super-fines separation efficiency of the cyclone.
I believe I've read that the tube coming form the cone and going to the drop box actually has a name (other than hose) and it helps somehow). I kinda doubt it will matter much. But before anyone else makes the same adjustment, you may want to check to see if it would have any effect.Comment

Photo Updates (Image Test)
Here are the photos showing the inside and outside with cyclone installed. I did 6" DC today and converted my jointer to 6" DC. I will post those images soon.

Updates
Got the siding installed today and roughed in the door. The door shown in the photo is a temp door. I plan on picking up a cheap steel outdoor door for the perm installation. Cyclone is back up and sucking with new 6" duct work throughout. I am going to start another thread for the 6" ductwork installation and retrofitting all hoods in shop to 6". I have retrofitted the jointer thus far and it was really easy, requiring no modification to the machine. I can take the replacement hood off and put the original back on and it is identical to premod. I am very happy thus far with the noise reduction of having the cyclone out in the seperate room. It's cool to hear nothing but air sucking through the duct work! You can hear a heck of a suction at the jointer head. I made a few passes of some 8" wide red oak. Very happy boy.

I have thought about doing the same thing - nice thread. If I do it, I would also put my air compressor in the little "shed". It is an oil-less Bostitch and makes more racket than the DC. I would have run steel pipe back into the shop but getting rid of the racket seems well worth it.

about the air compressor, i have a friend at work who said that a friend of his has piped his garage for air using pvc pipe. some of that pipe at hd or lowes is rated at like 2XX psi, more than enough for 125 or 135psi compressors. some thing to look into as a substitute for steel piping._________________________
