    new shop

well, we moved the day before christmas eve in 2005. the first project was to get the shop up and running. it's finished, has been and i've been meaning to post it. this is my first dedicated shop. shared laudry room before. the first and bottom left picture show the old location. the others are from the new shop.

the overhead lights are a joy, my old shop had a bare bulb --1.

i had to run the juice, build the wall with the door($20 from HD--a steel exterior fire door special order, never picked up--280 tag on it) and hang the drywall on the ext wall and the new built wall. then i epoxied the floor.

    vitals:
    it's about 11x23
1 15amp circiut with the ceiling outlets (lights, air cleaner, operated by wall switch)
1 20 amp-single plug under box, used for shop vac/dc
1 20 amp-mutliple outlets along wall where either tablesaw/miter saw live
1 15 amp-multiple outlets around brown bench for sanders, chargers, radio, drill, drill press etc.

the picture is of Scott Phillips of The American Woodshop, very nice guy, had the occasion to meet him a couple of years ago, and when he came back to town a year later, he still remembered me and what we talked about. it hangs with pride near the door.

now on with the real projects i suppose.

Congrats on the new shop, Rob. It looks well organized. Your drywall and epoxying look excellent. Enjoy it.

Looks like you have plenty of space too... I spend the first 10 minutes of every day moving things around so I can work in my half of the garage.
      Great looking shop... Steve

Nice setup, Rob! Sounds like you can fully appreciate what you have now, given your previous setup. I could picture drinking a cup o' coffee in there, and just thinking about how to set up shop.

        Regards,
        Tom

Congrats on the new shop, it looks great. Now that you've posted the pictures you can go ahead and make sawdust and mess it up. Rod won't know the difference

            Very nice!

That's a nice space. I envy the wall space you have. My shop is about the same size, but is missing a couple of walls (third stall of the 3-car garage.

            Enjoy!

Looks good, Rob. Nice and bright, too. How did you come up with the clamp rack?

                  hi rob,

nice setup - looks like it's going to be a great place to hangout. your shop is very similar in size to mine(you've got a few sq. ft. on me though) and i have managed to squeeze in a table saw, planer, jointer, bandsaw, drillpress, dust collector, router table plus the usual hand tools. it helps to have some of that stuff on mobile bases.

i still find i have lot's of room to do most things i need to do in the shop and because it is so small i have to keep it relatively clean or i start tripping over everything.

Pappy, i scored it at a local ww shop they were selling the Jet displays. only 10$$ i only used half of it at the old shop, but now i can use the whole thing. i thought for $10 it was way too good to pass up. the casters would cost close to that, and it came with the peg board and skewers--clamps not included.

thanks for the compliments all. i have already found that cleanliness definately helps in the space. and of course the first project is lockers for our mudroom--each 2x4x7 so i feel like i'm back in cramped quarters. but it's great to be able to shut and lock the door, and forget about it for a while and go for a bikeride or catch a baseball game. the old "shop" necesitated tearing everything down and putting it all away and cleaning everything off. a 1.5-2 hour process. this is way better!!
