    Frankensaw Set-Up

Just got a second BT on the sale going on at HD. I need some suggestions. Below is my current set-up.

I'm thinking of incorporating the second saw at the far right. Only problem is I will loose 20" of drawer space on the two drawers.

For others that have built Frankensaws is it best to have this separation in the saws or to have them as close as possible?

    Thanks,

    Mike

You have thee sets of rails (altho it looks like two of them are actually BT3000 rails, but it will work)

So, make a Ultra frankensaw with 126" rails - three of them end to end. Now you won't have to sacrifice any drawer space and you will have the worlds largest BT3 rip capacity. :-)

      Loring,

You are actually looking at about 3-1/3 rails. This is all I'm allowed to have...so my wife can park her car in the garage. But, an Ultra Frankensaw sounds interesting.

(Did you also notice my 15 yr. old BT3000 base is part of my mobile cabinet?)

Don't forget to account for the curvature of the earth in your design!

But if I may be serious for a moment...

If you go to the far right with it, you won't have any real rip capacity to the right of the blade. Don't know if that's important to you. I guess the point is that if you first decide how you intend to use the second saw (dedicated x-cut? dedicated dado?) it may be more clear where you need the room.

          Regards,
          Tom
p.s. I'm calling you on a gloat! Nice score!

Added moments later: A thought just occurred to me that you should whack off the top two drawers completely and make a single low surface for both saws to sit on. You can still make a drawer stack (or whatever storage) to fill in the space, but now you can swap the drawer stack and saw around to choose the best position.

According to my calculations, that would mean that the saw rails would need to bend an in-measureable amount around the Earth. I couldn't get a number from autocad.
