Hello everybody!
Hope you like fairly simple projects to keep your tools sharp and curb the boredom that sometimes happens when grand kids drop in. Or to spruce up an area in your backyard or on a fence post. The photos are to show just a couple of ideas. Stay tuned. There are so many styles of weathervane that a guy could start a new collection. The first photo is of a templated project and a freehand sort of like dads ole idea then of course at the bottom are my renditions of the idea. The green and white free hand is available on line.

A while back there was a discussion on things you could make in your shop to sell. I don't remember whirligigs being one of them but I've seen a number of craftsmen at shows and fairs that were selling them. They seemed to sell better that most items offered except cheap glass jewelry. They even sell well at auto shows/ swap meets. None that I've seen have the craftsmanship that is displayed here, as a matter of fact most are crudely cobbled together but regardless they sell well.

Capncarl I like to use my equipment to the extent that it's not too idle.Do like the fabrication of these projects. Gigs are captivating as one can do a lot of animation movements. I prefer to show the correlation between line drawings and the profile as it gives dimension to space in a backyard. If one is to try an sell their work it's best to make a good robust product. I seen one of my vanes take a 45 mile wind gust and hold steady. I hope you try one sometime. The drawing below should be a good start. Print this off and cut the print out into lil photos . Take those to the copy shop and enlarge to 202% on 11by 17 stock. Make sure you get 4 copies of each lil photo. photo 2 in the reply thread shows this step completed. The smallest of the lot is 5 years old. The large sized is 10 years old it gets stores during bad winds.

Strength

These will be mounted closer to the ground rather than up high as to take advantage of the ground level breeze. Silhouette weather vanes are traditional time honored woodworking projects. It makes sense to repurpose wood pallets to make these. A short length of drywall screw to hold the vertical and horizontal stabs on. Makes for a very tight true fit no glue.. These will be painted in true to form naval liveries... ' well sort of '
