6" thin wall PVC pipe

I know a guy who runs a Horticultural/irrigation service. He installed a 4" french drain for me and some sprinklers last year. I'll ask him first.
Then try Ace if that doesn't work out.

I did get some pipe although it schedule 40 but the price was right, my local friendly irrigation man had some lying around.

ANy suggestions on how to make a smooth, straight and square (cross)cut on a 8-foot long 6.6" dia. piece that probably weighs 30-40 pounds?

Once I get it down to about a foot long I can put it on the bandsaw with a miter gauge and cut it square and straight. BUt meanwhile I gotta deal with this big sucker.

I cut PVC tube, Plexiglas tube, and Sona tube, by setting on the TS with a miter gauge, and raising the blade to clear the wall thickness. Then to just roll the tube against the miter gauge making a complete cut around the circumference.

There is a way of using the miter gauge and fence, but I won't recommend the technique as it can be hazardous to those with limited tablesaw experience. For the RAS, using the fence and a stop also works, but not for the inexperienced.

I cut mine in the field using a strip of paper and a marker with a handsaw. Strip wrapped around pipe, edges to match, run marker around paper edge leaving a faint line on pipe then cut carefully. May or may not be accurate enough for your needs, and with sch. 40 its going to be tiring! Oops!, just reread.... Long wise, perhaps a long sled on either band or tsaw. The ts may fuse the kerf if you are not careful..

Why do you need to make a smooth, straight and square cut on the long piece of pipe? I'd just use a jigsaw or circular saw and cut a slightly oversized piece off the long piece and then square it up and cut it down to size on the bandsaw like you said.

That's my plan B; probably what I'll do, I was just checking if there's any good ideas for doing it on the big piece.

No you were right the first time - it's a "crosscut" I want to make.
I'll probably do something like you recommend, good way to mark it. Maybe cut it with a sawzall type of recip saw.

You could always use a post cutting jig and cut it with a circular saw.

I use http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/pag...=1,42884,43836 a Nobex miter box or a cheaper version of it I got at Sears years ago to cut plastic pipe. It seems to work the best for me thought I still have to sand the ends.

That would be too small as the pipe is 6.6" dia. LV states their jig is for 4-5/16" H by 6" wide max.
