Doggie damaged carpet edges. Thresholds?

    Doggie damaged carpet edges. Thresholds?

    Our budget, like oh so many others, has been cramped by this economy... And my carpet in the living room has some doggie damage to nearly every edge where it meets tile. I can't afford to replace the carpet yet, so I was thinking about doing some sort of threshold.

    Has anyone done this before? How do I attach the threshold down? What woods can I use?

    I am thinking oak, mostly because I have a bunch that I got cheap. and apply Minwax Golden Pecan stain to match my cabinets...

    Once the thresholds are down and the carpet is secure, I get to call in Dirt Free Carpet cleaning and try to get some life back to this living room....

      How bad is it? We had some pet damage to the carpet in an apartment that we lived in once and I was able to rent a stretcher and restretch the carpet back to the tack strips and trim off the jagged edges. Looked much better after that then when we moved in.

          It's pretty rough... Explain the carpet stretcher.. This is an awfully big carpet. I am afraid of tearing it...

              Its the same thing that installers use when they first put the carpet in. It's like a knee kicker with poles attached to little grabby things. The knee kickers stretch and pull the side that they are tucking in, a stretcher will attach to the opposite side of the carpet and stretch the whole carpet. You get move movement with a stretcher than you do with just a knee kicker. I'm not an expert at this so my explaination is pretty sketchy but rental stores usually have a carpet stretcher. I was able to move my carpet a good 6 inches to reattach to the tack strips. After so many years your carpet gets loose and stretched out a little.

                  +1 with what James posted.

                  Our neighbor had wringles and bulges and they rented a stretcher and it worked out great for them.

                  Depending on size of your room/carpet, you could stretch at least 3" which may help.
