    Splines aren't necessary. Smooth mating edges and use glue and clamps.

      As far as an alternate source for hardware, leevalley.com is the way to go, just click on the hardware tab. They'll also send you both a tool and a hardware catalog for free. Nifty stuff and makes great bathroom reading.
