        Why does it have to go that deep?
        I think you could do the same thing with a 4 or 5 foot deep trench 24' long. Just keep it all below any possible frost line and you should be good.

              You could try the wet vac trick - using it to excavate the dirt up. You could use a long pole to guide the hose.

              First big rock and you are done!

                That being the case, I'd rent a mini-excavator to dig slits. You should be able to get a good 6' to 8' depth depending on the soil, machine, and operator.
