    New Desk

I bought a new solid core door awhile back. LOML saw it last weekend and wants Me to

cut it down to 24" and sit it on 2 filing cabinets. One side would be mine for My computer,

the other side would be a desk for 9 yr old GrandDaughter. Any ideas, I am going to rip it

    tomorrow. Bill

You'll probably have to clean up the cut edge, either by capping it or by hollowing out a bit and sliding in some wood between the skins. It seems like they're getting more and more creative with what they put inside solid core doors now-a-days...

The smooth faced solid core doors work pretty good as tops. I've used them as a substrate for drafting and layout tables. The core is likely not wood, but a composite, could be particle board. As Alex suggested putting in a filler section or edging works good.

Probably don't need to ask you this Bill, but have you thought about how you attatching the door to the cabinets?

This door is very heavy, cut edge will be against the wall. I will decide what I have to do when I get it cut as far a filling and edge banding. Thanks, Bill

Just check your numbers by comparing with an existing table. 24" might not be enough width for two people on opposite sides.

I would not want to sit in kickable distance across my daughter; she has a incessant wish to swing her legs .

If the space allows, 28" or even 30" would be better. If not, you might want to think up a way to offset how the two people sit so they knees don't knock.

It it is pre drilled for a door handle, the hole makes a great pathway for cables and holding a light clamp!

She is only 9, so I can get Her real easy. Not predrilled but that is a good idea. Now

comes the new wrinkle, My Brother bought 8 rental properties since November. I went

over this Noon to get 64 new cabinet doors, the guy that lived there worked in a

cabinet shop, so I brought them home. We also found 3 boxes from the Bombay

Company, guess what, pedestal legs for a desk. Gonna use legs and put filing cabinets i

n the middle. It will give each of Us 30" knee space and seperate us. Bill

                            Don

I don't have a camera, maybe I can find one. The top and legs are attached and the

desk is in place. I have the filing cabinet in between and legs on both sides of it. When

I get the top finished I will see about borrowing a camera. Bill
