The HD ply was $40. Because the sizes of cuts that I needed to make would have required two 5X5 sheets @ $95. 20%, more or less.

At our local orange house of follies they have some 3/4 poplar ply for $39 that is pretty stable but has massive voids and the veneer is paper thin.I have used it on a few occasions on things where looks weren't important. The newer 7ply stuff they have looks to be fair quality much better than this.

You should definitely check out your local lumber store (search the physical yellow pages, online searches are not as good for such yet). The quality of ply is many times better and the cost is only slightly more. I get 4x8 red-oak at $55 with very little if any voids.

Of course for shop cabinets HD stuff works fine.
