Kid's Kitchen: Need "clicking" knob design

    Hey gang,
Anyone have a design for "clicking" knobs?

I'm building a kitchen for my 3 1/2 yr old daughter and spinning wood disks just won't cut it...I need the knobs to click when spun.

Was thinking of a small plastic piece mounted inside of the oven cabinet with some kind of barb...but my inexperience in wood working is limiting my thought process.

    ...and yes
    - the countertops and backsplash will be granite
    - the stove rings will glow red w/LEDs
    - there will be under cabinet task lighting

    thanks for any help/guidance.

    best regards,

I ran through a couple ideas then thought.. Why not use the knobs and pots from a real oven? Call an appliance repair shop and see if they have a set from one heading to the dump.
If you want to get fancy you could wire them to those LED.

    option 2..

Go to Ace HW and get a 1/2" ball bearing and a matching spring
cut notches radially around the back of the knob with a round or v router bit
Drill a 1/2 hole in the cabinet behind the knob deep enough to hold the spring and keep the ball protruding about 1/2 way out of the surface..

Now with the knob bolted on the ball will ride the notches like a detent.

    Yet another simpler idea..

Round disk on inside of the cabinet with dowels mounted in it plus a plastic flap for a clicker. Like a playing card in bicycle spokes..

you could use something like this:

behind the knob mounted in the face of the console and then put some holes around the back of the knob.

        Thanks!

Lchien and sscherin, Thanks for the ideas....I really appreciate it.

I think that I'll be combining some of your suggestions and go w/a modified 'card & bicycle spoke' approach. As suggested, I'll put in an internal disk; but instead of dowels for cogs, I'll route 'cogs'/gaps into it and add a plastic flapper.

3 heads are better than 1.
