    untreated 4x4s??

I've been to every lumber dealer near my place and nobody carries UNTREATED pine 4X4s.

Anyone in the Boston area know where I can get these?

ANy idea why they've become so scarce?

Try an independent lumber yard. Big box stores won't hardly bother with low demand merchandise.

Untreated 4x4's are hard to find unless you have access to a lumber supplier that caters to the construction trades instead of the DIY'er. A 4x4 which is actually 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 may not stay straight. Even in construction, 2x4's are doubled up for those areas requiring more support. Two of them together would only be 3 x 3 1/2.

If you actually need a 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 square, you could dress out lumber (cutting down to eliminate the rounded edges) and do a glue up to get the size you want. Structurally, it would be better than one single piece.

Try an independent yard and if you can use it, look for hemlock, that's what we have around here in non PT

I was able to get Cedar 4x's from a local lumber yard with no problem.

Check the locals out. Also, they were cheap.
