Spaceball resiliency

How resilient is spaceball rubber material? Would it spring back to it's original round shape after being squashed to 1/8 - 3/32 inch between a door panel and frame for some period of time.
Reason for asking, I put together 4 raise panel doors with spaceballs without glueing them up, just temporary hold up with tape for the past 6 weeks.
I went to see if they are still straight, which they are. The thing is I remove the spaceballs and they still have not spring back to their rounded shape.
My concern is when the door shrinks in the dry winter weather these balls will not re-expand to keep the panels immobile.
Do these spaceballs dry rot after a time?

It's an interesting question that I never had the opportunity to find out. Every time I've used them, the door got glued up. They get squished a bit on glue up and maybe the form they take after that is what creates the "positioning" to allow for expansion and contraction. They are cheap enough, to just replace them when you do glue up. If they do come back to life, let us know.
