    Router Table Size Recommendations...

    I recently purchased the incra 17 inch LS 2 router table fence. The fence is 28 inches long. I am wondering if a 24 x 40 inch table is big enough, or should I make it wider to accommodate the 28 inch fence? I would like to hear what others have done using this fence. I have a couple of pieces of 24 x 48 inch mdf, and laminate to build it. What are your thoughts?

      I recently built a new router table to mount on the rails of my BT3100. It is my third table, and each one is larger than the other. The latest is 24 wide by 22 deep because it has to mountable on the rails of the table saw. See this thread:

      I would seriously consider one that was 40 inches long if I had material that was long enough (see the thread for the 24 inch limit). It would be especially nice if the router table could be used as an extension table.

      The short version of this tale is that I don't know if it possible to have a router table that is too larger, unless, of course, would not be able to reach the bit.

              the pic from woodpeck.com above shows the LS fence on a router table.
              I think you should make the table wide enough to match the 28" width of the fence as pictured.
              I assume the plate cutout will be placed way off center in the long 40" dimension as shown to allow the 17" travel of the positioner.

                      Thanks for the replys. I guess it would make sence to build the table 28 inches wide to accomidate for the fence. Since I purchased a couple of 24 x 48 inch sheets of 3/4 mdf, it would mean that I need to glue a 4 inch piece to the mdf sheet to get the 28 inches. I have done it before, but I know what your thinking..."why dont you just by a bigger sheet of mdf?". Well, its a good thought but it wouldnt fit into my car... bummer... I know...
