Opinions on Router speed with 2" dia bit

    Hi All,

Looking for opinions on what speed to run my router at using a 3/4" rabbeting bit (2" overall diameter). Router is 2 1/4 hp and am cutting into Mahogany. I am thinking around 15-16,000rpm from my research so far, any opinions?

    thanks,

    Kevin

This page shows what sommerfeld tools recommends:

I'd probably examine the quality of cut and or burning you get and tweak the speed from there.

      Kevin,

More important than speed for a bit 2 inches in diameter is not to take too much of a bite with it. I would probably slow it down a little but also listen to the router and do not make it remove more material than it can easily remove in each pass. If the router is screaming at you and the cut is rough, you took too big a bite.

that'll probably be OK or mayebe a touch faster.
How will you know you set it for 16,000 RPM and its actually doing it?

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.
