I Need to Protect a Painted Finsish

This weekend I will *Hopefully* be making a cornhole game set (an unfortunate and stupid name for a game, I know). What exactly is Cornhole you ask? Well, let a link answer:

Now, the construction couldn't be easier, but I am going to paint it, and would like to have it durable, as it will take a beating from being onstantly being pelted by bags of beans...

I'll use a good oil based primer and paint, but is there a way I can protect the finish further? Can I/should I put a UV resistant poly of some sort over it?

I would stick with all exterior oil base applications of primer and color. If I used a varnish it would be just an exterior varnish, maybe one that has UV protection. Spars don't really dry to a hard finish. They stay somewhat flexible to maintain their consistency. You might need a finish that's more impervious to impact and roughhousing. With a final coat of color, it can be recoated as needed.

I can see this being popular in West Hollywod, but in Sylvania, OH? Who knew?
