    50lb of sand = ?ft3

    Any idea on what 50lbs of sand is in cubic feet?

    I don't have a clue but I would guess around 1/2 cubic foot. I used to know a loooong time ago. And I had to figure the difference in weight between "wet sand" and "dry sand" for how much (in volume) a 1 ton truck could handle.

    I will keep checking in for the answer.

      Found this website with the specific gravity of several bulk materials. If sand has a spec grav of 1.602, then the density is about 100 lbs/cu.ft. So I guess Hank is right.

        So I read 1600 to 2000 kg/cu m from Anna's site
        Converting,
        dry sand 100 lb/cu ft
        wet sand 125 lbs / cu ft

        so 50 lbs would take .4 (wet) to .5 (dry) cu ft.
