    Barbie House Plans

The Grandaughter's birthday is coming up and I am thinking of making a doll house for her Barbie dolls.

Anyone have plans to one, or links to free plans on-line? If I can get the basic dimensions for the rooms, I can shoot from the hip on the design. Want to keep it fairly simple.

I don't have any plans, but it will have to be a very large house if She has as many of them Barbies as there is in Our home. Good Luck, Bill

You could just get the height of a Barbie doll and scale it from there. If you have pictures of what a Barbie house looks like, you just use the scale from the doll, in ratio to an average girl that age, and convert the ratio to the size of the house.

As an example: If Barbie is 5" tall and you are using 1" = 1', then, the full size barbie would be 5' tall. Using that scale you could figure average room sizes, ceiling heights, doorways, etc.

I didn't build my daughters but might have if I had thought of the design we ended up buying. It is basically a bookshelf design. Pretty simple, as is the elevator. But getting it with all the furnishings, Barbie decals, etc made buying much better deal than building. I know I would have gotten satisfaction from building it but you also have to look at the cost of furnishings and the "coolness" factor. Ya, birdseye maple floors would have been cool if I built it, however in their eyes purple plastic is MUCH superior to even the nicest quilted maple.
Not trying to discourage you from building it, just pointing out some of the shortcomings of DIY on those projects. Sometimes it is more meaningful for us than the kids.

Gotta agree with you, Jeffrey. Especially if the plastic is baby blue and pink or other colors the kids love. I've been thinking about building a small playground in the backyard for the grandkids. I'll probably build a few things, but color will be an important aspect of the projects.

WE have plenty O plastic barbie stuff at our place. I do think if you make the wood dool house it we passed on to their kids. The plastic will be sent to craigslist or the landfill when the color fades. We sent the 3ft plastic barbie mcmansion to grandmom's basement.

              thanks mom...
