Need some ideas -

Was finishing up a couple of quickie cutting boards and found two slabs of cypress that I picked up outside of Jacksonville a couple of years ago that I had forgotten about. Looks like they'll mill to 1 1/2" x 22" x 9". In the first photo the board on the left comes out with the best grain, reinforced in the second photo.

Problem is, can't think of what to do with them. Was thinking of book matching the best one for a table top, but the LOML likes the 1 1/2" thickness. The two boards don't come close to matching each other.

Any ideas of a project for these?

There's not really a whole bunch of lumber to play with there, Ken. I understand LOYL's preference for the thickness, though.

How about this? Resaw the nice piece into two and glue them up for a table top. Then build up the edges with 1-1/2"x1/2" slices from the second piece, trying to fool the eye into seeing the full thickness. Then cut up the second piece for 1-1/2" legs and some stretchers and you've got a coffee table.

Just a thought.

Here's an idea, using JR's idea of a table, you could do the resaw thing, and then use all of one board (grain) for the top, or intermingle pieces from both, side by side showing off the two grain differentials. Whatever you use them for, they are both really nice looking. Maybe use in conjunction with something darker, like mahogany or walnut. How about a three legged triangular table.
