    arcade cabinet

Went to an auction today, and picked up a 21" moniter for $2.50. Yes it works, I was the only one who wanted to lug it.

I remember reading at least one member who built an arcade cabinet, now I am wondering what to use to build one? MDF, Particle, Borg plywood?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Almost every one I've seen was MDF. There are so many builds well-documented on the web. Google MAME cabinet to see seemingly endless walkthroughs.

What to build from a sub woofer...

I built my own Mame cabinet out of MDF and slapped some green marble laminate on it. I will try and get pictures up for you.

I had a busted sub woofer and some scrap counter top lying around. How about build a Telescope!

The scope is an 8 inch Dobsonian. great views of the planets and moon so far. Andromeda is still a faint fuzzy when I tried it up north this summer. I eventually plan on building an 18 incher when I grow up...

          Now that's impressive !

Any images you've captured with it that you'd care to share ? I have a 6" reflector telescope but nothing that compares to that. Andromeda ? The best I can see of that is a fuzzy gray patch ! haha

Great stuff. Good to see other people's interests and how they relate to their woodworking projects.

Here the pics of my Mame cabinet:

Original design - Just really liked the angle of the monitor (27" tv)

Those are two car subwoofers powered by a 20 amp power supply. Car audio in the basement pretty much shakes the house.

This project was done a couple years ago with just a jig saw and a circular saw. About a 3 month build. Hardware from BORG and controls from Happ. Bought a keyboard interface board from a guy in the UK that makes the keyboard to Controls a lot easier and programmable. I wrote my own front end software menu in Visual Basic - Didnt like the ones out there.

Hope you can get some good ideas from it

Good Work, I used to build those for resale, and My own use. All of Mine

were built for commercial use. Coin doors are available ab Amusement

Emporium in Colorado, and Peachtree Supply in Atlanta. I used a material

that was finished on both sides with a formica like feel. I called it MDf but

Mr. Kirby gave Me the correct name for it. It comes in 5' X 9' sheets and is

very heavy. I bought it direct from Lumber Distributor name I believe was

                    Meyer Wholesale. Bill

OK, since there is no drum roll here, I am gonna guess your talking melamine? If not, give us the name of the material please.

$20 on ebay as I remember for the coin door. Happ Controls also sells some coin doors, but to be honest, Its really become a decoration. It is functional, but I value my quarters! Actually if the kids get bad I should make them pay to play

The cabinet also doubles as a Jukebox. I have some audio switches hidden up on top, that allows you to play the game sound, jukebox sound or both at the same time.

I can tell you - if you grew up with pacman like I did, its the most amazing sound (to me) when you are playing MS Pacman with the subs turned up - and a cherry comes out for you to eat.

It is not Melamine like Lowes sells, it is on the same type in that it is finished

                            both sides. Bill
