    Inlay strips

On The Woodwrights Shop this week they had a guy who did inlay. I have a lot of scraps around the shop and wanted to try makeing the strips of checkerboard like inlay material you see on sale at Rockler and places like that. On the show they used heated hide glue. I am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions.

What do turners use to make the segmented bowls using many differant woods? Somehow the glue line doesn't show and it's turnable and sandable.

    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Jonathan

jim boyd is the local guru on segmented turnings. I'm sure he can tell you how he glues them up.

Jim hasn't been around much since he changed jobs. Hopefully he's getting some shop time in.

I've been out to the shop a couple of times lately and was so tired I went back to the house
Jonathan, I just use regular wood glue (titebond II) for the majority of my glue-ups. Sometimes CA glue on pen blanks.

Thanks for your reply! I am amazed at some of the segmented turnings, they seem to defy all the rules of wood movement. They should pop apart when the weather changes.
