Legs for end table

I am looking to create some 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" legs for an end table that would then be mortised. Can the leg blanks can be created by face gluing two 3/4" pieces glued together or do i need to get some 8/4 lumber? Is mortising through a glue line even an option?

Scott,
There's no problem making the blanks as you describe. If you have the $$$ and there is 8/4 stock available, that is the best option. Myself and many others glue 4/4 stock all the time. Just use plenty of clamps and make sure there are no gaps between the 3/4 pieces.

I think while gluing 4/4 lumber otgether will work, using 8/4 is better looking. Rockler used to carry 2" x 2" turning stock, in different species of woods. Might try them.

Or, go to the hardwood lumber store buy some 8/4 8" wide and rip it into 4 legs.
