    Good price on lumber?

Does this sound like a good deal?
A local guy has this in the bargain finder paper.
I'm wondering if I should load up.

10 ft long Oak and Maple lumber
    2x4 $9 each (1.35/bft?)
    4x4 $15 each (1.13/bft?)

I'm thinking it looks good and that I could find a use for it.
If I've calculated the bft correct it looks like an awesome deal for here.
I've been paying $4-5 per bft for rough 1x6 maple 4-6 ft long drops.

      Depends on the quality.

If it's good lumber, those are good prices. But if it's firewood ...

Take a block plane and a spray bottle of water along, so you can get an idea of how the grain will look. (I'm assuming this is rough lumber.)

        Does he really mean 2" x 4" and 4" x 4" or 2/4 and 4/4 stock (1/2" and 1" thickness). That's a big difference.

It states 2x4 and 4x4 but that is a good point.
I'm going to call him this weekend and check it out.

That's a real good point since hardwoods aren't usually sold as 2x4 and 4x4

I called the guy and he said he has mostly OAK, some Beechwood and some maple. The 2x4 are actually about 2-1/4" x 4-1/2" and the 4x4 are finished at 3" x 3-1/2"
Sounds like some leftover millworks of some kind.
Going to check it out tomorrow.

              What is Beechwood like?
