What glue to use to glue felt to wood

I'm wanting to put a felt back on a couple of chess boards I've made for my grandsons. I'm concerned that "wood" glue might soak thru the felt and make it hard in spots. Any input will be welcome. Thanks

Two methods come to mind........
One, use double faced tape like they use to hold carpet seams together, and the other one would be to use a rubber cement, used like a Contact Cement.

Put the rubber cement on both pieces sparingly then bring them together, using a slip sheet between the surfaces, just make sure the Cement is dry (not tacky) to the touch before you start to bond them together. I'd try it out on a couple of scraps first just to be safe.

I'd try the 3M #77 (or whatever) spray adhesive. Not the removeable kind, but the "super" kind.

Caveat: I've never tried it for this application -- just seemed like it would work well. Definitely worth an experiment, especially if you already have some.

Thinking back to Paul's jewelry box thread the other day, I'm wondering whether flocking might not be the better choice ...???

Seems like every felt bottom I've ever seen on something eventually rolls at the edges, or develops wrinkles.

Well the "this to that" webpage said 3m77 also so I guess I'll give that a try. I hadn't even thought of "flocking" as a posibility and I guess it might work but I've already got the felt so I'll try that.

I've done this to quite a few pieces and just good old wood glue. Never seemed to bleed through. Try a sample on a piece of scrap.

yes, 3M spray adhesive works for gluing felt. Make an even, sparing application so there's no wet spots, hard spots and soft spots.

Zackly what I'm doing. I've looked at several sites on a Google search and it looks like the 3M77 spray is the stuff to try first.
Nolen is going on 8 and his chess improves every time we visit.

Spray adhesive, or a thin coat of white glue should work fine too.
