Strongly prefer local pickup, but will consider shipping
given reasonable reimbursement for all the effort it will
    take to pack this!

POSTSCRIPT: Saw sold locally. I took a lot less for it than I would
have gotten parting it out, but it went where it will be appreciated!

And it is flat out DANGEROUS.

Seriously, replace the switch before selling so somebody that doesn't know better doesn't get hurt.

Yes, I noticed the comments about a BT3000 switch recall when I
was researching current prices for used BT3x's.

Here is a link to the recall:

        http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml96/96088.html

According to this notice, the problem is that removing the plastic
locking key didn't always prevent the saw from starting--a hazard
to both children and the operator.

By the way, there's an unanswered question on Ryobi's BT3000 forum
about how to remove the old switch. I'd also be interested in
        the answer.

        I'm off to call Ryobi...

There are four screws on the back of the switch (inside the saw body), one in each corner. remove them and the back comes off and the body of the switch can be pulled out the front. You may need to remove the right side panel to make it easier to get at them.

The two saws I'm parting out have a button over button design on the switch body. Both of them are jammed so you wouldn't be able to turn off the saw in case of emergency. I've trashed both those switches. terrible design. There is actually a switch inside the switch body. the buttons on the outside just actuate the internal switch. The switch body design on the 3100 is infinitely better.

I phoned Ryobi and the replacement switch is on the way. If this saw sells
before it arrives, I will ship the replacement switch on to the buyer at
            my expense.
