From everything I've seen on this board, VA has a very bad reputation. Just a really cheap product I guess.

Not so much bad as kind of low end. Sears sells a lot of stuff (tools) that are rebranded VA.

The big knock against the VA dado set, this one has no carbide tips, just HSS teeth. It will wear out in 1/10th the time of a carbide tipped set. At $54 its way overpriced. considering you can get a carbide dado set like freud SD206 for $75 or so.

        P.S.
OK,OK. For $20 it may just be the ticket for someone trying out a dado. And I've not heard of too many people wearing out their dado and needing resharpening.

I'm sorry if I was perceived as trying to knock the OP's item. I was just commenting on a item mentioned. It's always a little awkward when a item is for sale by an individual rather than talking about an item being sold commercially. I try to stick to the truth regardless. If its a good item I'll say so. If its a bad item I'll say so.

If anyone wants one of these, I have the Craftsman 6" dado set which is identical to the VA set, as far as I can tell.
HSS, no carbide, used some. The dados it cuts are quite good, actually. I cut a 1/2" by 3/8" deep sample a while back on my BT. You can barely see some grooving of the outside cutters, otherwise the bottom is flat. I'll attach a pic in a few minutes. If Stav sells his and someone else wants one for the same price, contact me by PM.

Jeez guys give the man a break. This isn't Tool Talk after all. All he's trying to do is sell something and people don't have to buy it if they don't want it.

            I'm with Dave.

            It's a dado set. It's 20 bucks.

I didn't mean my comments as any type of slam. Sorry if it came across that way. I was just passing on what I had heard from others here about that brand -- nothing more.

                  No offense taken.

Buying it would be an excellent jesture of good will.

Here's what makes this worse -- when I replied to this yesterday I really truly thought this was in the bargain alerts forum. I didn't see until right now that it was the member classifieds. Good grief -- you can certainly sell anything you want to other members without me slamming it !

I really am sorry for posting my comments now......again, my apologies.

I'm very glad you got it sold. I still feel like dirt over the whole thing.
