    Definitely agree with the:
    Paint
    Finish trim
    Install trim
    Carpet

As we wrapped up production on our basement this past November, that was how we did it. Our carpet installer requested it and a carpenter friend seconded the recommendation. I moved the CMS and sawhorses into the room and went to town.

As others have pointed out, it made clean up easier, it made little adjustments and trims a lot more convenient and certainly made it easier to install the boards straight and level. Used a couple of
set up bars on the floor as spacers and then nailed the trim up.

But please be warned, especially on new room installs, trim never ends, it goes on and on my friends...

    Have fun.

      I would definitely carpet last.

As others have mentioned, someday you'll want to replace the carpet, and if the trim is on top, this will be much more difficult. Plus if you ever switch to a different type of flooring (e.g. Pergo) or even a different pile of carpet, the trim might not be at the correct height.

P.S. Painting trim should be a misdemeanor if I were in charge!

I totally agree! But not everyone is a purist like us, you sometimes have to please the homeowner?

1/2" gap between the floor and the base is suffecient for the carpet installer to tuck under.

I recently installed new doors, trim & base in a customer's house who had their carpet installed by Home Depot. These guys gave them a sheet stating thet they are not responsible for scratches to the walls or trim.

These guys scratched the heck out of everything, and I had to repair the damage!
