Removing carpet tape from hardwood floors

Has anyone successfully removed carpet tape residue from a hardwood floor? Unfortunately, the tape didn't stick nearly as well to the carpet as it did to the floor. If it makes a difference, the floor is oak with a water-based poly finish. Thanks!

I've had good luck with, uhhh, whazzit called, Goof Off? or Goo Off?

No, I think it's Goo Gone. Pretty sure.

After a quick web search, I see Goof Off is a paint stripper. That's not the stuff.

After a Google search on "carpet tape residue removal," here's what I found:

      4. Carpet Tape Residue Removal from Wood Floor

If you have carpet tape or residue on your wood floors, try to remove as much of the carpet tape as you can before hand. You may find scraping with a dull edge, such as a plastic scraper helpful. Once you have removed as much as you can, you have a few options at to how to remove the remaining tape and glue. Several things should work, such as vegetable oil, WD-40, Goo Gone, De-Solv-It, Avon Skin So Soft, or a pre-soak laundry spray. Saturate the tape, and let sit for at least an hour. The tape should then slide right off, with a few areas possibly needing a second attempt.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. David, it looks like I needed to add "residue" to my Google searches, because I couldn't find much otherwise. The LOML discovered today that Murphy's Oil Soap plus COPIOUS elbow grease seems to do the job. We may give Goo Gone a shot as well.

Goo Gone will work great, but be sure to keep a couple windows open for some fresh air!

Ok, you will thing this is weird, but try peanut butter, the cheaper the better. We have used it on wood paneling to remove double stickey tape. I guess it is the oil content that does it.

I'm pretty sure that the Goo Gone will do it fine...seems to take most sticky stuff off... We've always had good luck with it.
              Lots of luck.

I use WD-40 to loosen up glue, and the bonus is you get that fresh smell of fish oil!

A PC belt sander with an 80 grit belt will take every bit of tape residue off. No toxic smells either.
