Right. Slab doesn't have a footing under it. I suspected that going in and was a little surprised when the planner approved the permit. I thought I'd asked clearly about my plan. I guess not. At the time I thought it was because there was nothing bearing on the slab. The wall wasn't bearing -existing posts would do that. I thought the floor was only bearing if it had a bearing wall on it.

Inspector will be out there tomorrow to do a partial on what I have done to make sure it is right.

Inspector passed the floor framing this week so closed everything up and started the walls. Most of it is done. Closet wall is done, most of one outside wall is done. I have to finish the other wall and then the front wall.

Is that the normal way to frame a window opening? I thought they had to be framed by a jack and king stud with a header or is that only for load bearing walls?

Windows are framed on load bearing walls with at least jack and king studs. Depending on window opening span they will have 2 jack studs each side - header needs to rest on minimum 3" each side. That said, that window is not right. I was framing the closet side, FIL framed that wall. He has never done it before but it is still my fault. Jack studs should go all the way to the sill plate. I am the foreman and wasn't clear enough in the layout. I didn't notice it till after we had the wall in - was the last thing we did yesterday and the beer was calling. I will fix it this weekend. Everybody who's seen that pic said the same thing.
