At least when mine did that it turned the front yard into a quagmire with a little bubbling spring that made it easy to find. Yup, that's how you want to wake up on a Sunday morning.

Clearly, your meter was broken in October and then you got it fixed...

Either that or the meter reader sluffed off from Nov to Sep, and averaged up the usage and stuck it on October.

Wow Alex. Did you have to pay for all that? At our old house, our July bill one year was 500 bucks. This was after we were gone for 10 days. It was normally around 80.00 I called the city and had them come out and go so far as to pull the meter, take it back and check it. They ended up averaging the previous year's bills and charging us that. A week later I found a garden hose that wasn't mine left on the ground near my front gate.

They computed by average usage based on the prior months, removed 100% of the sewer charge overage (because I clearly wasn't using the sewer!) and 50% of the water charge for the overage.

So it was still a pretty high bill even with the adjustment -- we get charged more and more per 1,000 gallons the more we use (intentionally or not) -- because we paid half price for about 15,000 expensive gallons.

...and I thought the 7,000 gallons in September was alarmingly high! Yikes!
