    Fixing Gutters

I have a low spot on one of my gutters where the water pools and overflows. What is the easiest way to fix it without messing up the rest of the run?

    Put a downspout there.

Measure to see if it has sagged or was installed low. If it has sagged, you may be able to push it up and resecure, though some work may be needed correct the rest of the run. A laser level would work well to check slope through the gutter.

How is it mounted? Gutter spikes can work their way back out, or the wood can rot (causing sag). They make a hanger that will slide under the shingles on the roof, and support the gutter. We did that to my neighbors and it is still holding.

I think the fascia is ok - it is wrapped in aluminum. The gutters are held in by spikes. I am not sure if something sagged or they were just put in wrong. I will look into a strap under the shingle to move it up a little. This is only about 4' from the downspout. I briefly thought about a downspout but decided it would look dumb.

If the spike has pulled out, you can replace it with a gutter screw and it should solve the problem and won't pull out unless the facia behind the aluminum cladding has rotted. If the screw won't hold then go with the gutter straps.

It might just need an eyeballing to check for grade. Standing water is a dead giveaway.

                I used

stainless screws thru the back and into the facia board. They will not loosen and allow it to droop or sag. Deck screws should also work. The gutter spikes have a habit of becoming loose.

Drill a hole at the lowest point and hang a brass chain leading to a flat rock. Then you can say it is a custom water feature!

Yeah this is what I was thinking. I was also thinking of getting the hose up there and just eyeballing for grade when I tweak them.

                    Thanks guys.

There is a kit sold for these to replace traditional downspouts. Think I saw it in Family Handyman.
