    That's a very good point. We sometimes get carried away with how we would do something and ignore the question of should we do it. One option would be to put the laminate on the risers and a good grade of carpet on the treads, wrapped around the nose. You would get the safety of the carpeting and the look of the flooring all without too much trouble. As you would be using little pieces of carpet you may be able to get a good deal on the carpet. A matching piece with bound edges and attached nonskid padding would add a nice touch at the bottom of the stairs.

    The floors look great, nice job of installing and finishing it off.
