    Shark Bite Plumbing Fix

I installed my own underground sprinkling about 3 years ago now. In the process, I run the system off of my hose spigot in the back yard. Late last fall, before I normally winterize the system, the main hose off the spigot burst.

This Spring, I decided to finally get around to running a separate copper line. This will accomplish two things. One, it will get it off the hose spigot which was never the permanent plan. Two, I will have a dedicated 3/4 inch line to the sprinkling system. The hose line was 1/2 reduced from my 3/4 inch line.

I have not been excited to mess with the plumbing, I will be completely honest. I've done a decent amount with plumbing to feel that everything I generally do feels like a hack job. I made a trip to the BORG today, and happened across some compression type plumbing pieces that were part of a Shark Bite system. I decided to go with it, despite the impression that it is fairly expensive for the pieces. I think I paid around 75 bucks for 3 elbows, a T, a shutoff, a threaded connector for the outside, a 3 foot and 10 foot copper pipe section.

The installation did go quickly. I did not have any leaks and my system. I was quite happy with what I ended up with. Time will tell how the system works. And the sprinkling system worked better then it has ever before> I think I'm finally clear of my problems I have had with getting the proper pressure.

I hope you put an anti-siphon device in the line. required in the codes here and most places, it keeps ground water from being sucked back into and contaminating the local fresh water supply system in case of a fault.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

I have the sharkbites in my basement. They have been holding for almost 2 years with no problems. I would not put them inside a wall I had no access to but they seem to work quite well.

I've never had problems sweating a joint (well, one little singe issue as a younger guy) so I've never used them, but plenty of folks seem to use the Shark Bite connections without problems.

Around here when I put my sprinkler in a permit was not needed but a backflow preventer was still required for sprinkler systems.
