I prefer fiberglass, I can afford aluminum. I don't think they make wooden ladders execpt for step ladders anymore. Dad used to have a 24 foot wood extension ladder. That was a bear to use, especially if it had been in the rain.
Sometimes the old man passed out and left the am radio on so I got to hear the oldie songs and current event kind of things
I have a metal one. Light and strong. I guess I never really thought about the conductivity issue. Still, I'd say don't mess up and you won't have problems with a metal one. I guess if I were an electrician full-time I'd have a fiberglass instead.

The chief cause of failure in this life is giving up what you want most for what you want at the moment.
Two 24 ft aluminum extension ladders with bullhorns and them little thingys that you put on them to make scaffolding. Reason: Got it all on craigslist for a song.
I like fiberglass because it is stiffer for longer ladders. At home I have one of those gorilla made little giant knock-offs and it is great around the house.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. - Thomas Edison
Up until about three years ago, I still used a wood ladder on ocassion that was close to 70 years old (pre aluminum ladders). I have used an Aluminum extension ladder growing up, and this includes in some tight spots by overhead electrical lines. Now I have a little giant style ladder, and I can expand it as an A frame, and get where I need to be, MUCH more safely (street lamp power line runs all the way by the house.
Fiberglass has always been out of budget.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.
I have an 8 ft fiberglass step ladder and an aluminum extension ladder. ANY time I can use the fiberglass one, I will. Different purposes, I know, but when working on the side of the house up high, near the eaves, I strongly prefer the fiberglass step ladder, even folded and leaning against the house.
