    Summer of 2005 Retaining walls

My photo album of how I spent the summer of 2005 ... stacking 83 tons of retaining wall block to keep the house on the hill, and the hill off the house.

Days? We started mid June and finished late August. We had the bobcat rented off and on for fifteen days. The agriculture teacher at the high school did the thinking parts and I handled the grunt work. He billed me for 180 hours, he put in alot more time than that and I put in over 300 hours.

I saw that and thought, now THERE is a reason for H1B visa's and a trip to Egypt or China.

How much was spent on painkillers?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Holy smokes! That is impressive. The pic with all those pallets of block is
pretty dramatic. Did you bury any workers in your wall like the Chinese did
                with theirs?

That looks a lot of sweat and back aches but the result is fantastic!

With all your experience, a simple 230 foot straight wall should be easy. The guest room is al,ready set up. When should I have the materials delivered?

                      Lot of work there.

How is that big tree that got the wall built up around it doing?

The tree still drops sticky stuff on us every spring and walnuts and sticks all summer and fall. Apparently, burying a black walnut up to the first branch is just fine and so far that seems to be true.

This wall should outlive me, when it fails I'll consider another. I think my arms stretched a couple of inches each that summer.

That is a great looking wall. Defiantly adds some class to your home.
