    Kenmore washer is leaking, need advice

    Have a Kenmore 80 series top loading washer that just started leaking. I put the washer up on blocks so I can see underneath were it was leaking. It is leaking water from underneath toward the front. I have noticed that it will leak (drips) during all cycles (some could be left over from previous cycle). It even leaks a little after the washer is done. I currently have a bowl under the washer to collect the water.

    This AM I poured the water from the bowl into the washer, it start to leak in a few minutes after this. It was not leaking before I poured the water from the bowl. Have not had time to open it up, been more worried about getting the laundry caught up first.

    Any suggestions on what / where to look. I know the water leak could be from anywhere and traveling to the front. I know it's about 10+ years old. I have replaced the coupler at least twice on this washer. So getting into it and working on it is not a problem.

    If it's 10+ years old, I think the first place I would look would be an appliance store (for a new washer). This is about the point in time when you will probably start spending more time working on it than you will using it. DAMHIKT

      Bah, that is just a pup. I had a Norge that went about thirty years.

      I would check the hoses and clamps then the pump.

          If you can find a good appliance repair person, they can tell you if your make and model of washing machine is worth repairing. I have just been through this with a Maytag Neptune. After doing all of the research, pricing out parts, talking to the repair guys, searching the internet, we junked a $1000 machine that was & years old. I could have done the work, but the cost of repair and the likelyhood that it would stay repaired was not favorable.

          So here are a couple other great resources;

          Find out who made the machine first. Many times the parts are interchangeable from the manufature, just like Sears versions on BT3K

          then you can find help on some of the manufacture sites, at the site above or at http://www.apdepot.com/Repair/RepairIndex.asp

          The other place for help is on several of the appliance repair blogs.

            I second that. The advice I got on that site walked me through fixing my old Kenmore 90 series dryer... Forget the repairman, DIY if you want it done right...

              Thanks for the tips on the web sites will check them out, if anyone knows of any other please pass them on. Have done some looking around on the web, and got several things to look for. Plan on fixing it if I can, 10 years old for a washer is not that old in my book. More importantly the cash flow is not there for a new one .

                I had a Kenmore do this as well. Turns out the pump housing was fractured. About $40 and a couple of hours work to fix. I used repairclinic.com for the parts. Pretty easy job. IIRC, I think you have to start by removing the control panel at the back and then take off the top piece of sheet metal and then peel away the sides. We sold the washer with the house, but it was still going strong after a couple of years.
