    New Kitchen addition

I finished this awhile ago, but thought I should post it to show some of my recent work as have not posted any for awhile.

This is why I do not get a lot of shop time.

it all started with an idea. My mother was sick of her 6 x 15 tiny kitchen so we designed one on sketchup that would be built on the rear of the house on an existing steel and concrete slab approx 10 x 18

built everything for rough framing did the roof, siding, windows, ran furring strips along the floor to level it, enclosed and insulated the underside of the porch, etc.

here are some inside pictures (I did not have time to build the cabinets sadly)
The floor is a glued laminate. Obviously I did all electrical. Also installed all cabinets, counters, sink, windows and doors. The picture of the interior doorway was the opening to the old porch and goes into the old kitchen.

    kitchen cont...

here is what i did with the old kitchen. I built two closets the one with the bifold doors now houses the washer and dryer. The other small one on the right. is where we store all of the cleaning supplies. Tucked back in the other corner is the pantry I built which can be seen in this thread.http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=39409
the walls and ceiling were so messed up we just rolled on joint compound stippled it and gave it a knockdown texture. Turned out great. cannot even see flaws in the walls.

Looks like you've been pretty busy, Phil and it turned out very nice. Mom should be very happy. Nice job.

Hi all, I think that the foundation of my house is sinking and I’m looking for some outsider opinions. The door to the back patio is difficult to close—you have to push it into the doorframe, almost. Our basement floor is obviously not even. In my bedroom, where the wall meets the ceiling, there are cracks and gaps. Should I call someone to check all this out, and if so who?

It would be worthwhile for you to start your own thread.

That is very nice and I know from experience that was no small amount of work. Your Mom should be thrilled with the results. Now, you are invited to come to Southern Cal and help me finish building our new home.

Tiffany, you can start a new topic with your question. Also, please fill out your profile at least with your general location - the answers you get may depend on where you live.

I don't know the term, so please excuse my ignorance.... But the decorative trim over the sink / window between the cabinets does not seem to match the style of the rest of the kitchen. Otherwise it is VERY nice... But it looks like you have modern cabinets / counters mated with a 1950s architectural detail... It kind of clashes to my eye. Maybe I am wrong... Most likely.

That is called a valence. I like the one in that picture. We have some in our kitchen, which I hate. I will either remove them or redo them to something else. I am waiting for my wife to make up her mind.
