Outlet Boxes set too deep

I installed some new outlets in my basement before having the drywall installed. Today when I finally got around to putting on the cover plates, I discovered that some of them are set too deep behind the drywall and the standard plates won't fit.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? I have 2 small kids who will be running around down there and I want to make sure the outlets are properly covered.

An adjustable mud ring may be of some help.

All you need is a spacer to hold the outlet out further from the box...assuming you're only talking a quarter inch or so. You would have to remove the outlet, put the washers or other spacer over the outlet mounting screws, then re-install it. You shouldn't have to disconnect any wires...just shut off the breaker first.

Electrical box extenders are available from most building supply stores.

A few turns of copper wire around the screw will act as a nice spacer, easy to adjust too.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I found some of the spacers at Menard's and they worked perfectly.
