    fluorescent slow to light

I put a fluorescent bulb in dining room and when I turn it on it
comes on gradually. Once befor same place I put a dimmer
switch on this bulb when it was incandesent and it was very dim on
full power so changed back to reg switch.
    Anyone have answers?
    Thanks

the obvious thing is to get a voltmeter and see if the light fixture is getting full voltage when its on.

this of course requires basic electric skills in operating a voltmeter opn a live circuit and knowing where to measure in the light fixture w/o electrocuting yourself.

If you don't know how to do that then you need an electrician.

Is it a screw-in compact fluorescent?

The ones we are using come on pretty dim and then get brighter after 30 seconds or so.

If it "heats up" to normal brightness in under a minute, I think that is normal.

This is true for the older ones, but the newer ones seem to have fixed this. I found the older ones annoying, but the new ones are just like a "normal" lightbulb. I think the package for the newer ones said something like quick starting - that's not it, but you get the idea.

Maybe its the better ones versus newer ones? I got a new pack the other day in an effort to take a stab at reducing my $330 power bill and they are very dim and takes a few minutes to "warm up".
I need to check on the ones you are talking about because these are not cutting it.
