When we bought this house we put in gas appliances where we could - dryer-stove-water heater. We bought AO Smith and like it. If you replace, check out the "tankless water heaters". We might try one of them the next time (if there is one).

To add my two cents, do you have hard water? Where I live you can get a concussion diving into most swimming pools.

We installed a water softener, feeding both cold and hot incoming lines and now I have to buy a natural gas heater every 10 years, not every three.

Our water comes form municipal wells mostly and they didn't name it ROCKland county because they thought the name wa cute.

Hard water? You know how famous York/Lancaster county is for their Amish folks and fertile land? How about houses collapsing into sink hole because of limestone errosion underground?

Ya . . . we have hard water. Very hard water. I installed a water softener about 6 months ago. Prior to that the entire plumbing system had the hard water through it.
