Toilet Recommendation

I just installed a kohler comfort height which I bought at Lowe's. Funny thing was that when I was there a week ago checking them out they didn't have the comfort height in anything but white and it was prohibitive, to me, in almond or bisque. When I saw it early in the day I had my wife's car and had to go back later with the PT cruiser at which time there were only two boxes left and they had been opened and resealed. took a chance any way (ended up short on toilet bolts of course). I wanted to buy the eljer comfort height in almond but it was over $500 on order. I have a knee problem and the extra 1.5 inches is a big help. It has a larger footprint than the american standard which it replaced and is doing a great job so far. The american standard had a tendency to rock and lose it's seal which is the main reason I wanted to replace it. I had reset it 3x in two years, obviously without success. We have 3 toilets in the house and this is the second one we replaced since we moved in 6 years ago. The other was an american standard plebe which is holding up well but doesn't flush as well as the new one. The remaining original toilet is blue to match the existing fixtures and will not be replaced until absolutely necessary. It also doesn't flush as well as the newest one. They are improving the 1.6 gallon flushing ability of the new toilets but they cost more. The $80 guys are not going to do the job. At least not yet.

If your body is of the older type like mine is , you might want to opp for the higher type of toilet. They make one that is about 3 inches higher than the standard type.They are much easier to get up from , also I find the elongated kind are more comfortable

I picked up a toto after reading many many forums and review sites. I got the CST743S:

And I couldn't be happier. Not only does it flush really well (no two/three flusher here) but it does it quickly and quitely as well as not causing any spray while doing it. I also like the fact that it refills quickly too, no drawn out bowl refills.

One piece toilets, although cost a little more, are definitely the way to go as they are much easier to keep clean(er) and one less leak point as the tank and bowl are one ...

Check your local municipality or water company as their is quite often a rebate for the low flush toilet as part of a water conservation drive ... I know we ended up getting $50 back on one a few years ago, and $100 back on the one we did back in the fall.

No matter whose brand it is though, make sure you research the rating and performance before buying.

Got the Toto Ultramax with SanaGloss. No more plunger,
with hydraulic closing seat and cover and silent flush to boot.
That's the only way to "go".

My house had two real old toilets that ate up ~6 gallons per fush. The downstairs one developed a totally silent flow which was eating up 200+ gallons/day. I found out when I got my water bill.

Knowing I needed to replace the thing pronto, I made a research - and found out that Toto Ultramax was the darling of the industry. I ordered an Ultramax Elongated Bowl Sanagloss with Softclose seat. Can't recall exactly where, but it was like $420 shipped.

Using a $12 No-Seep wax ring from HD, it took me only about 2 hours total to remove the old toilet and install the Ultramax. I LOVE it. At the push of a lever, it makes a quick 2-3 second gurgle, and whatever is in it is just gone. I never had to flush it twice - and it refills for next use in about 20 seconds. I don't know how non-SG models work, but this Sanagloss stuff works - in several months use, we did not have to wash it or use a toilet brush once, and it is still pristine white. Love the softclose seat too - it has en extra safety bonus: my 1.5 year old has developed an interest in it and likes to play with the seat and the lid. Soft close means she won't get her fingers crushed by a falling seat/lid.

As soon as I get around to it, I am getting another Ultramax to replace the upstairs toilet as well.

Is american standard. Or at least was. No, I don't work for american standard and I do like a kohler toilet.

But my house was built in 1928. And it still has the American Standard toilet original to the house! Of course, its like 23 gallons per flush (well, not literally), but it is quite a commode. and still original parts for everything but the tank innards (ball float flapper etc.), oh and the seat has been changed. Same handle, same 6"brass elbow pipe connecting water tank to bowl (not directly connected), even same seating to stack according to plumber. Large, sturdy, very porceleinish. Can't rave enough about it. If I could take it with me, I'd try!!!

Kohler, American Std, and Toto are the best from what I have heard. I have an american std that works great, no clog, no leaks, no malfunctioning.

I installed an American Standard Cadet 3 from Home Depot a few weeks ago. Cost less than $200 for the ADA-compliant (chair height) one with the elongated bowl. Easy to install. Flushes extremely well and quickly, with a very quick refill. I have a couple other 1.6 gallon models that I expect to replace with this one as occasion arises. I can't see spending more unless you want a different look, or perhaps one of those dual-level flushes for liquid and solid wastes, as are apparently the current requirement in drought-stricken Australia.

I few years ago I ordered the Toto Drake from Homeclick.com. My stepson, affectionately known as "The Clogger" has yet to clog this toilet. He has said that it is incredible. I consider that high praise.
