    Shed Construction

Got a friend who is planning to build a shed from scratch and is using the 16" OC 2 x 4 type construction. Any comments on using screws 3" exterior coarse thread instead of 16d nails. This includes screws instead of nails for rafters.

May be overkill for a shed but will definitely work very nicely. Make sure screws are galvanized.

It would work but unless you are in an area subject to hurricanes or high winds, it seems like a lot of overkill.

Nails... screws are not code compliant.

The problem with screws in this application, besides cost, is shear strength. Nails have much higher shear strength that screws in these types of applications.

Easier to take down, should he ever move.
