    I Can See the Light!

After putting it on the back burner for almost 2 years, I finally got the cabinets installed in the Master Bathroom. Construction is Maple/Birch ply with Maple stock for the facings, doors, and drawer fronts. Drawers are constructed of 1/2" Baltic Birch ply. Finish is high gloss precatylized laquer.

The magazine rack/shelves are to fill a hole cut to allow access to the plumbing between the shower and bathtub. The cabinet doors were edge glued and the joints accented with a shallow 'V' groove on the router table.

The knobs were special ordered for the 'Boss' and her collection of mice.

Next is some repair to the drywall near the floor, lay the ceramic tile floor (a first for me), and trim the room. Then just a matter of installing the toilet, shower door, and hooking up the sink.

Other pictures can be seen at http://community.webshots.com/album/552372492yGAPqx for those interested.

Nice job. Ceramic tile is fun, you have to make sure everything is perfectly level and void free.

And whatever you do, don't let SWMBO talk you into installing it on a 45/diagonally. I let my wife do that to me years ago when we had to retile our kitchen. Looked horrible to me, and took 3 times as long as it should have. It's amazing what your grout lines look like at 3 in the morning.

Seriously, and I'm sure you know this...find the center and use chalklines to help align. Also, get a bag of those little spacers from your favorite store. Their cheap, and worth their weight in gold if it's your first or second time laying tile. Also, go ahead and rent or even buy one of those cheap tile saws if you don't have one. I borrowed one from a friend and used it like crazy. Much better than trying to do things with the hand powered tile cutter and nippers. If only he had found the miter gauge before I finished.

Nice Pappy! I like the Wood Mag sitting in the rack. Wood mag should do a project that is a magazine rack/toilet paper dispencer. I think it would be a popular project. That's were I keep my recent copies anyway.

Those knobs are fun. And I like the angle-design on the wall cabinet, makes it very clear that this is custom work. Good luck on the tiling!

That looks great Pappy! I have been contemplating the same project for 2 years now. I love doing tile. Make sure the floor is flat and plumb BEFORE you start.

Great job Pappy. Love the mouse accents. Two years ain't bad, it took longer than that to decide what we were going to do to referbish the kitchen at our last home. And it only took three weeks to do it.
