    If I were to do it all over again.. I would probably go that route. The carpet installers were pretty rough on the floor trim when they use their tools to push the carpet down. It will certainly mark the paint as it did mine. I still have to go back over them with another coat. Also, when they lay the carpet down.. it will ususally wrap up the wall to some degree (ie if your room is < 12 ft). The backside of the carpet will then scratch the wall. This is much more visible on dark paint.

    Maybe I would do the first coat before installing carpet.. but not the final coat. I would certainly do the ceilings first though....

    If you hire professionals to paint.. then I wouldn't be too worried about it.
