Johnson Paste Wax + Fine 00 Steel Wool

Pardon the newbie question but I bought this at Lowe's and a fine steel wool. Do I use the steel wool with the wax on the rails too besides the table top? or Do I just need to use a cloth with wax on the rails? Appreciate any info.

Do I need anything else besides these two items to maintain the new table saw I got?

Ray, is this something unique to the Ryobi? I wax the rails on my Ridgid all the time and have never had any issues because of it. Actually, I find that waxing the rails makes moving the fence alot smoother operation than it was right out of the box.

Waxing the rails on the BT makes the fence hard to keep aligned and in place at times. The BT fence is on rollers so the wax will not make much difference in the ease of moving it but it may hamper the clamping.

wax on the BT3 rails reportedly makes the rip fence lockdown an iffy thing.

If you waxed the rails, suggest cleaning with mineral spirits to remove the wax.

So the rail waxing problem only applies to Ryobi saws? My saw is a Delta 36-675 10 CS. Any owners of this saw experience similar issues when johnson paste wax were applied to the rails? How about the mitre gauge slots can wax be applied to them as well for easy gliding of the mitre gauge?

No reason not to wax the miter gauge slots since you want the gauge to slide smoothly.

SHADOWFOX, yeah, the wax on rails issue is specific to the bt3 rip fence locking mechanism. Yours may be different and may indeed benefit from waxed rails.

While we gladly dialog about all saws, when no saw brand or model is mentioned, the assumption is that it will be a BT3000 or 3100 on the BT3Central forum. It is easy to see that from the answers above.
