woodworking clubs?

Whats everyones thoughts on joining a WW club? Being mostly self taught, I could sure use some hands-on instructions, or just quality observation. What should I expect out of joining a club? When I visited the local state fair I picked up a few cards from clubs around the area, and was just wondering what they are all about.

There great for local forum ideas and support,the one in my area holds meetings once a month. They also organize group buys on lumber ect. to get a discount and cut down the cost of shipping. What with this here forum being the best virtual woodworking club on the planet, it'd be really cool if there were some actual, face-to-face local chapters established that would help preach what all of us here already know: that it's not just about the saw.

With that said I am a member of the ATL "no name" woodworker club.

Also belong to the "keeper of 8 fingers and 1.8 thumbs" club.

Didn't a group in the upper left hand corner of the USA get together for coffee recently? How did that go?

I belong to a local club that meets monthly. $25 a year dues ($35 family) http://www.lakenetnwi.net/member/woodworkers/ Great bunch and some good discounts with local business and some National ones. They have shop visits, workshops, picnics, tool auctions, books and videos that members can check out, demos at meetings. Lots of advantages.

My Reserve Unit was in Afganistan two years ago. They’re a Vetrinary/Food Inspector unit. They were looking into having coins made and wanted a motto/slogan (I forget which is which). I suggested, “Injected, Inspected and Detected”, but it didn’t go over well enough with enough folks. I think one out of forty+ caught the reference and almost sprayed their coffee.

Al,
I'm up for that. In fact my wife knew exactly where your shop was from a picture you posted way back. We can always use the coffee shop too.
And on the other part of this thread. How many of you,besides me, have actually been to Whitehall Street?

Count me in for a meeting in Little Falls. I don't know exactly where the workshop is but I am sure I am few minutes away from it.
