    Grizzly 8" wet sharpener grinder.

I got a lathe for Christmas, and a starter set of tools. Now I need a good way to sharpen them. I have been looking at the 8" sharpener grinder from Grizzly. Anyone ever used this tool?

I believe they have a couple of different models. Which one are you referring to? They have a pretty decent looking Tormek clone for not a ton of money...

It is the Tormek clone, the 8" model.

That one is a good one but I will warn you, it is often not the grinder/sharpener that is expensive but the add on tools to precisely hold the tool being sharpened.

I have looked at that one too but I have the WorkSharp. I am still envious of that Grizzly/Tormek kind of sharpener. You won't go wrong with it. Just read what comes with it and google online reviews on how to keep your tools sharp with that specific sharpener. And another warning, there is not a sharpener in the market that doesn't have one or two people criticize it. Look at the other reviews, unless half a dozen or so all say the same thing.

A wet sharpener is overkill for turning tools, unless you really like grinding. An 8" slow speed grinder might be a better choice. And you'll want grinding jigs (wolverine or similar).

I have the Grizzly sharpener and, although I do not sharpen turning tools and am not a woodworker of note, I find it does very well on chisels, plane blades and knives. Of course, it is entirely correct that you need to look at the accessories you will use and their prices. I like the wet wheel.

I received my new Grizzly sharpener and put it together. The wheel is about 3/32" out of square across the surface. I am not pleased with this tool. I'll call Grizzly and see what they will do about it.

You need a wheel dressing tool anyway. This little diamond tipped one works like a champ. It can be found at Woodcaft.

I have the WorkSharp, and a slow speed grinder. But what I use most often for my turning tools is my Delta Belt/ Disc sander. 220 grit discs are more than fine enough, and you can either strop use use a diamond stone to get a final polish. But again, it's not really needed for the turning tools.

I just got off the phone with Grizzly, and they are shipping me a new wheel. I hope that the new one is square.

I just got a new wheel at no charge and this one is square. They didn't ask me to return the old one either, so a thanks to Grizzly on this one.

I use a Woodcraft slow speed 8" grinder with a Wolverine grinding jig for sharpening my turning chisels. Quick and effective.
