Has any one used this planer

I'm considering buying this planer it appears to be very solid in the store. I would have to build the in feed and outfeed tables and am aware that these tables are what control snipe. I've been using my sons Ridgid but this one is half the price. and like most of the china made stuff will probably need the bearings replaced but they are standard bearings according to the parts list.

My dust collector had to have the bearings replaced but once you do you have a Jet or delta equalor better because the bearings are now Timkin.

I have not used this one but for $250 unless you absolutley need it now I would keep my eyes peeled for a good used one. I have the ridgid TP1300 which I picked up a year or so ago for only $150. You can get a new R4330 at HD for $369 and the ryobi 1301 which a lot of folks say works well for only $199.

I agree with Jon. Watch craigslist and your local paper for a used one. With the way the economy is you might be supprise what you could pick up. No I know nothing about the HF planer but I think you would do better with a "Name Brand" one IMHO. I have a HF Bandsaw and Drillpress and they are fine for what I use them for, but that is as far as I go with equipement. I got a brand new Ridged Planer and a near new Grizzly Jointer off Cragslist for $200 each.

I have heard mixed things about this one.

Their 6" jointer is on sale also for $99!

Shipping is kind of expensive but not too bad.

Used is OK - but always chancy. I would stick with a better brand if you want a new one.

          is a good example.

Save yourself $50.00, get to Home Depot and grab a Ryobi AP1301 13" Planer. MUCH better planer for the money. NOT up to par with the Ridgid TP1300LS, but it is a great little planer for the money. YES infeed / outfeed tables HELP with reducing snipe, they do NOT eliminate it. A feature both the planer you link to, and my AP1301 lack is a cutter head lock. THIS is more important than the infeed / outfeed supports. Snipe with the AP1301 is minor, but it IS there... Even with infeed / outfeed tables.... FWIW, The AP1301 is on about par with the Ridgid R4330 other than missing the feed tables...

I do know that I have seen members on another WW forum with HF planers, and everyone that would admit owning one, had a LOT of trouble with them...

If you can be patient, the TP1300LS is well worth the extra money. Maybe see if you can catch one refurbished through Ridgid or something...

I guess I much be one of the lucky ones, because the one I got from Harbor Freight has worked flawlessly. It produces an extreemly smooth surface for me. I am quite pleased with the performance I have gotten from this machine and I have had plenty of tools and machines I have had to return to HF.

Ditto on the locking cutter head. No point in owning a planer without one when there are so many that have 'em...

                    planer

That's the best deal I've seen in a while. Thanks. I was considering the HF planer but for $50 more...
